U.S. Pacific Light Technologies (PLT)are researching LED coating materials

U.S. Pacific Light Technologies (PLT)’s researchers are researching LED coating materials, the results of the user may save billions of dollars for the LED lighting costs.

The study will likely increase by 50% LED luminous efficiency, while allowing the LED to emit the different light that is difference with the usual pale shades and warmer. The coating products will further eradicate the problem of toxic heavy metals, and further reduce production costs. With the help of equipment and manpower of the Oregon State University, PLT company adjust production processes of the coating. Coating contains the micro semiconductor composiing the quantum dots, enabling more efficient blue LED light.

Juanita Keer Ting who is one of the co-founder and chief technology officer of the PLT said: “This project aims to promote non-toxic lighting at reasonable prices, which will bring great energy-saving effects ,if using the LED that is of the reasonable proportion to light, then the total lighting energy consumption will likely be reduced by 50 percent by 2030. ”

US Oregon promote non-toxic coating material LED research projects

Greg Herman who is the chemical engineering professor of the Oregon State University and the researcher of the Oregon Built Environment and Sustainable Technology is the project leaders, the research is conducted at Oregon solar cell production process innovation centers of the Oregon State University. At a news conference, Professor Herman said: “We believe we are able to precisely control the size of quantum dots in the 5-10 nm, thereby controlling the light color emitted by the LED. This project is very suitable for our experiments chamber, and is also my interest, because it focus on the use of non-toxic materials and improving energy efficiency. If we can do all use LED lighting, the savings will be a huge amount of energy. ”
